Spinning for Socks

I've just finished pair eleven of my 13 in 13 sock challenge (more on that tomorrow) so thought it was about time I got started on spinning the yarn for my handspun pair! This part of my challenge has been making me rather nervous!

I decided to use my Trindle and picked out this gorgeous merino/nylon fibre from Sara's Texture Crafts. I split the braid into 3 and started spinning. I thought the trindle would help me keep the singles quite fine as I am aiming for 3 ply sock weight yarn to knit with.

I have spun one ply so far ....

..... exciting!! I have no idea what weight of yarn I am going to end up with, a sensible person would probably have sampled, but I was eager to get started and didn't want to chance not having enough yardage!

This fibre is so lovely to spin that I can't put it down... I wonder if I will have some finished yarn by next weeks show and tell!!

I'm joining in with the Spinning Show and Tell on Crafts from the Cwtch again this week so click the link for more spinning related loveliness.

So, are you a sensible spinner who samples or do you take the ... erm ... relaxed approach like me?

  1. That's spinning up beautifully. I'm still at the "see what happens" stage of spinning. Probably because I have no idea how to change up what I'm doing to get something that I intended to. Maybe this time next year I will have more singles under my belt and be better at getting what I want.

    1. It's lovely that you can always use what you make though isn't it.
